Enticing people back to the office with timeless style and modern comfort

We delivered a space that carefully blends historical architecture with refined, modern features for one of our longest standing clients.

“The design you produced for us is well thought through and has enticed people back into the office, which was the driving force for us. Everyone who has come to visit has commented on how much they love it.”

Carmen Hernando Mestre, Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG

Key features

  • Grade II listed building
  • Heritage detailing with modern functionality
  • High end finishes
  • Reused and recycled furniture

We designed and delivered the fit out of the new London home for Deutsche Pfandbriefbank, a leading European specialist bank for commercial real estate. With a client relationship of over 20 years behind us, we were trusted to relocate their London office from the Walkie Talkie to a newly refurbished Grade II listed building at 16 St Martin’s Le Grand.

It was a fast track project with tight deadlines driven by an expiring lease, but also an opportunity to build a workplace that made the most of its unique setting. The design had to preserve the character of the building, align with previous projects we’ve delivered for Deutsche Pfandbriefbank and entice people back to the office.

Historic charm with a modern twist

To meet the brief, we created a refined, functional space split into two clear zones: a client facing front with meeting rooms and welcome area, plus a staff focused back of house with open plan desks, breakout zones and a kitchen. Our design respected the character of the building, working around original roof lights and brass detailing to ensuring partitions didn’t obscure the heritage features.

We reused key pieces of furniture from the previous office, including coffee tables with recycled plastic tops, subtly embedding sustainability into the scheme. Green furniture and décor were used throughout the space to match company branding, while natural finishes and planting added warmth and texture without distracting from the clean, modern lines. Finishes are high end but understated, striking the right balance between formality and welcome.

Timeless design that people love

The result is a popular workspace that feels at home within its historic setting whilst supporting the pace and professionalism of a modern banking environment. Delivered in 10 weeks, the project is another milestone in a 20 year relationship with this valued client.
