Reimagining first impressions at 10 Templeback

St. James's Place wanted to refresh key areas of their 10 Templeback building in Bristol to create a premium tenant experience. We brought their existing design to life with a contemporary fit out that delivers quality, character and functionality.

It was a very good experience indeed. The whole Morgan Lovell team made the journey great from start to finish. Hopefully we will work together again soon.

We were brought in to refurbish the reception and create new shower facilities at 10 Templeback. Over time, the reception area had been reshaped through a series of small projects, resulting in a disjointed aesthetic that lacked cohesion. St. James’s Place wanted to refresh the space to give it a more contemporary, considered feel, helping it stand out among strong local competition. With the previous contractor going into administration, they needed a new partner they could trust to deliver the existing design seamlessly and with minimal disruption to the building’s other tenants.

Design that respects the building's past

We worked with the original design intent, helping to refine the material palette and introducing important changes to improve quality and delivery. The design is inspired by 10 Templeback’s history as Bristol’s first public electricity generation station, with the original façade from 1893 remaining as a listed feature. The concept paired modern industrial touches with materials that nod to the building’s history. Finishes included rustic wood, clay bricks, tarnished metals and clean lined contemporary fittings, all tied together by a large scale feature lighting installation inspired by the building’s original use.

The new shower facilities were built in the basement by repurposing car parking spaces, maximising the footprint of the building without impacting its lettable space. When a key access issue emerged between the basement lobby and shower area, our team quickly proposed a redesign that avoided delays and kept the programme on track.

Seamless delivery and zero disruption

10 Templeback was occupied whilst works were ongoing, so it was vital that the project was delivered with no disruption to the other tenants. Our site team maintained excellent communication throughout, holding regular meetings and keeping the client fully informed with weekly site walkarounds to give clear visibility on progress.

The final result is a smart and characterful welcome space that honours the building’s story and provides a premium experience for tenants and visitors.
